2- Let the dispatcher know who, when, and where: How many individuals will be riding, when will you need the transportation, where will the pick-up location be, and if you need a return trip as well.

Requests for transportation should be made 24-48 hours in advance.  Same day service is not guaranteed. Please be ready 15minutes prior to your pickup time.

The mission of the Shawnee Mass Transit District is to provide safe, affordable and efficient transportation to all the citizens of Alexander, Johnson, Massac, Pulaski and Union Counties with emphasis on services to seniors, the disabled and the economically disadvantaged.  The District will approach its mission in a way that will make these communities more livable, necessary services more available and maximize employment opportunities

What we do

 

The Shawnee Mass Transit District is a state and federally funded public transportation provider serving the five southernmost counties in Illinois: Alexander, Johnson, Massac, Pulaski and Union.  Shawnee MTD's mission is to provide safe, affordable and effective transportation to all the citizens of our five-county district, with emphasis on service to seniors, the disabled and the economically disadvantaged.  The District approaches its mission in a way that will make these communities more livable by increasing the availability of necessary services and maximizing employment opportunities.

 

Public Notice

 

a) Shawnee Mass transit District is a general public transportation provider receiving Federal Transit Administration Section 5311 funding.  Section 5323 (a)(1) of the Federal Mass Transit Act of 1964, as amended, requires that FTA projects “to the maximum extent feasible” provide for “the participation of private mass transportation companies.”  Private mass transportation companies operating within the Shawnee Mass Transit District’s five county service area wishing to be considered for inclusion in the FY18 service plan should provide a written statement containing:

 

1. Name and address of mass transportation entity

2. Principal owners and/or officers, phone contact

3. Current service area, operating hours

4. Number of vehicles and ADA status

 

Interested parties would be required to comply with all applicable FTA requirements and allow service and safety audits through Shawnee Mass Transit District.

 

b) Shawnee Mass Transit District does not provide incidental charter service.  Trip requests for this type of service are referred to willing and able private charter operators.  Private charter operators interested in receiving such referrals should submit contact information.

 

c) Shawnee Mass Transit District hereby gives public notice of its policy to uphold and assure full compliance with Title VI of the Civil Right Act of 1064, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987, and all related statutes.  Title VI and related statutes prohibiting discrimination in Federally-assisted programs require that no person in the United States of America shall on the grounds of race, color, or national origin, sex, age, or disability be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to, discrimination under nay program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

 

Any person who believes they have been aggrieved by an unlawful discretionary practice regarding SMTD”s programs has the right to file a formal complaint.  Any such complaint must be in writing and submitted to the Shawnee MTD Executive Director within sixty (60) days following the date of the alleged occurrence.  Requests for more information regarding civil rights complaints or submissions for items (a) and (b) above should be submitted in writing to the following address:
